Anne-Maree Cantwell, MD, MA'86, WG'86

Dr. Cantwell is a strategic leader and innovator in digital healthcare. Her expertise extends across a broad range of complex domains, including digital healthcare, medicine, and corporate finance. Anne-Maree’s career spans from working as a physician, leader, and visionary at one of the country’s most respected healthcare organizations to performing advisory and financing roles in the financial services industry.

She is currently the Founder and CEO of Digital Healthcare Advisors where she advises CEOs of early-stage digital healthcare companies on how to optimize their value proposition. In this role, she has enabled CEOs to think strategically about their go-to-market strategy as well as facilitate financing for early-stage organizations.

Prior to this, Anne-Maree spent over 20 years at Kaiser Permanente in Northern California as a physician and passionate visionary of telemedicine. Under her initiation and leadership, she influenced senior management to put telemedicine at the center of the company’s services delivery strategy. By engaging and influencing key stakeholders, video visits increased at her medical center from 1% of all patient encounters in 2016 to over 30% in 2021. Anne-Maree presented her best practices in telemedicine to the Board of Directors as well as to other Northern California medical centers. She also held other key leadership roles at her medical center, including being the medical director of a hospital medical-surgical floor. During that time, she was invited to innovate and execute hospital quality improvement programs resulting in improved patient outcomes.

Prior to a career in medicine, Anne-Maree completed her MBA at The Wharton School and worked in investment and corporate banking in New York, London, and São Paulo. Through mergers and acquisitions advisory work, she learned how to maximize company valuation and optimize a corporation’s capital structure. Key deals she worked on include the divestiture of half the hospitals from two large hospital companies. She also gained valuable financial acumen in leveraged buyout financing and was responsible for generating and maintaining a senior bank debt portfolio of over $150M. After seven years in financial services, Anne-Maree completed her MD degree at Loma Linda University, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha.

Currently Anne-Maree serves as a Senior Advisor to two venture capital companies investing uniquely in digital health, and she sits on the Board of Advisors of two start-up digital healthcare companies. Most recently Anne-Maree was elected to the Board of Directors of the Mill Valley Library Foundation in the San Francisco Bay Area, which manages an endowment of over $3M for the benefit of the Mill Valley Public Library.
