Adam_powell.jpgAdam C. Powell, Ph.D. is President of Payer+Provider Syndicate, a management advisory and operational consulting firm focused on the managed care and healthcare delivery industries. A healthcare economist by training, Dr. Powell’s specialty as a consultant is using quantitative techniques to examine issues concerning healthcare technology, quality, and operations. His peer-reviewed research has focused on improving healthcare quality in mHealth (mobile health) and in high-cost areas of medicine. He additionally is a Senior Partner at SSB Solutions, a healthcare strategic advisory firm. He serves on the editorial boards of Discover Health Systems and the Journal of Participatory Medicine. Due to his interest in mental health apps, he is a co-founder of the Society for Digital Mental Health. He is known for his expertise in global health informatics, and has lectured extensively in Asia.

Dr. Powell holds a Doctorate and Master’s degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied Health Care Management and Economics. He also holds Bachelor’s degrees in Management Science and Writing from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Powell has taught Master’s-level courses on health economics, healthcare supply chain management, global health, health informatics, and health sector consulting at Boston University, the Indian School of Business, MIT Sloan, Northeastern University, and Thomas Jefferson University.

Mark-David McLaughlin, Ph.D. is Head of Security Architecture and Engineering at InterSystems, where he leads a global team responsible for the security design and assurance of cloud and on-premises data platforms supporting healthcare, supply chain, and financial services. With close to three decades of experience in cybersecurity, Dr. McLaughlin specializes in secure architecture, system assurance, and building resilient systems at scale. His work focuses on embedding security into system design, development lifecycles, and operational requirements to ensure platforms can withstand evolving threats, as well as supporting organizations in preparing for and recovering from major cyber incidents that impact critical operations.

Dr. McLaughlin has been actively engaged in advancing security approaches for AI-integrated systems, including evaluating emerging risks and developing strategies to secure machine learning–driven applications. He holds a Ph.D. in cybersecurity and has authored multiple patents and publications in the field. A frequent speaker on security architecture and emerging threats, he brings a pragmatic perspective on how organizations can align security engineering, platform design, and AI innovation to build and operate trustworthy systems.
