Srinath (Sri) Adusumalli, MD, MSHP, MBMI, is Vice President and Chief Health Information Officer (CHIO) at Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System, and an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine (Cardiovascular Medicine) and Informatics. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Healthcare Management at The Wharton School, and is a Senior Fellow of the Penn Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and the Penn Institute for Biomedical Informatics.
A practicing cardiologist‑informaticist, Dr. Adusumalli’s work centers on the use of health information technology, artificial intelligence, and behavioral science to advance the safe, equitable, and clinician‑friendly adoption of evidence‑based care. In his role as CHIO, he leads clinician informatics teams across the enterprise. He returned to Penn Medicine as CHIO in January 2025, after serving as Senior Medical Director of Health Informatics at CVS Health, where he led enterprise initiatives including Epic implementation and governance, clinical AI strategy, national virtual care, and the clinical aspects of CVS’s digital consumer and patient experience.
Dr. Adusumalli first joined the Penn faculty within the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in 2018 as an outpatient, inpatient, and imaging cardiologist focused on health informatics initiatives. During his earlier tenure at Penn, he held leadership roles including Assistant CMIO for Connected Health, Deputy Director of the Penn Medicine Nudge Unit, and founding Director of the Penn Center for Cardiovascular Informatics. His work during the COVID‑19 pandemic included scaling ambulatory telemedical care across the health system, and his research portfolio at the intersection of behavioral economics and clinical decision support has appeared in journals including JAMA Cardiology, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, NEJM Evidence, and the American Heart Journal.
Dr. Adusumalli received his BS in Biology and Economics from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006 and his MD from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his internal medicine training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 2014, where he led the program’s quality, safety, and informatics education efforts, and then completed his cardiovascular disease fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2018, during which time he served as chief fellow. He earned an MSc in Health Policy Research from Penn in 2018 and a Master of Biomedical Informatics from Penn in 2021. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, clinical informatics, and echocardiography.
