Robert J. Laskowski, BA'74, MD'78, WG'83

RJL--prof-photo-Dec-2016.pngDr. Robert (Bob) Laskowski is a well-known educator, consultant, writer, and retired physician executive. A three-time graduate of the University of PA (BA, MD and MBA).  He is a board-certified specialist in internal medicine with additional certification in geriatric medicine.  Dr. Laskowski retired in 2014 as President and CEO of Christiana Care Health System, one of the nation’s largest health systems, based in Wilmington, Delaware.

Trained as a health services researcher, Dr. Laskowski has a long-standing interest in viewing the healthcare system from the vantage point of the people the system is privileged to serve. These interests include: understanding how patients make decisions and evaluate the care they seek and how medical professionals, especially physicians, can be more effective in their roles as compassionate, caring, expert advocates for patients’ health and well-being.

Dr. Laskowski currently serves as Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Association of American Medical Colleges. He is on the Board of the University of Vermont Health System. He holds professorial appointments at Thomas Jefferson University and the University of Delaware.  At his home on Martha’s Vineyard, he serves as Secretary of the Dukes County Health Council and as a member of the Healthy Aging Martha’s Vineyard initiative.  The latter group’s goal is to help make Martha’s Vineyard an “Aging Friendly” community.

On the Vineyard, Bob lives with his wife, Kathy, nearby to 3 of their 4 children and all 3 (so far) of their grandchildren.  He enjoys walking with Kathy, playing with the grandchildren, writing poetry (especially haiku), looking at stars, playing the piano, and running the occasional marathon.  He would like to learn to be a better fisherman.
