Rich-Butler-photo.pngSenior Exercise Physiologist Richard Butler, M.S., U.S.P.T.A. has been an Exercise Physiologist for over 20 years. Following his time at Indiana University he has focused his attention on the numerous ways that exercise enhances an individual’s health. Whether working at a clinic in Hawaii, worksite wellness in Indiana or seeing the many guests at Canyon Ranch in Massachusetts Richard promotes the lifestyle changes necessary so individuals can gain the many positives from this medicine called exercise.

Having lectured on biology, nutrition and exercise over his career Richard is comfortable juggling the interplay between calories, activity, and wellness. At Canyon Ranch, a particular focus for Richard is on metabolic testing, body composition, and cardiopulmonary fitness. Richard meets people with all different levels of fitness and experience.  And regardless of that level, he approaches them with the same intentions of meeting them where they are and preparing a plan of action for improvement.

Rich received his BSE in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland and his MS in Kinesiology at Indiana University.  Rich also completed the practicum on Exercise Testing and Interpretation at UCLA Harbor Medical Center.  He is a United States Professional Tennis Association certified tennis instructor and a certified basketball official with IAABO.  At home Richard tends his garden, coaches tennis and tries to find new places to go climbing. He lives with his 2 daughters and wife in Pittsfield, MA.
