Patricia S. Hofstra is a partner in the Chicago office of Duane Morris LLP and practices in the area of healthcare law. Patricia advises healthcare professionals and healthcare companies in corporate, regulatory and litigation matters. She strives to help her clients achieve their goals in the most efficient way possible. Before practicing law, Patricia worked as a registered nurse, giving her valuable insight into the business of the law. Prior to entering private practice, Patricia also served as in-house counsel at St. James Hospital and Health Centers and Lutheran General Health Care System. With direct experience in the healthcare industry, Patricia understands the business of healthcare as well as the complex rules and regulations that govern it.
As a trusted advisor to clients, Patricia regularly works with hospitals, long-term care providers, physicians and physician practice groups, retail clinics, home health agencies, ambulatory care centers, medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies and other healthcare companies. She has extensive experience in business transactions involving healthcare entities, medical staff matters, licensure and regulatory matters, managed care contracting, hospital/physician contracting, joint ventures and information technology. She frequently advises clients on fraud and abuse, governance, Stark and intermediate sanction issues.
Before joining Duane Morris LLP, Patricia was a partner at the law firm of Bell, Boyd & Lloyd LLC. She also served as staff counsel for the American Hospital Association and was an attorney for the Ohio General Assembly’s Ohio Nursing Home Commission.
Patricia remains active in the healthcare industry and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, where she was the vice chair of the Medical Staff, Credentialing Peer Review Practice Group. She is also a member of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys, where she served as president and a member of the board. Additionally, Patricia is a member of the Women Business Leaders Foundation, an invitation-only premier network of more than 3,500 senior executive women and women board leaders in the healthcare industry. She is also active in the National Association of Women Lawyers.
Patricia has earned recognition from Illinois Super Lawyers, Leading Lawyers, and Martindale-Hubbell®, where she holds an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rating.
Within the community, Patricia is passionate about giving back and supporting charitable causes. She has served on the boards of directors of the SGA Youth and Family Services, and the Vascular Disease Foundation. She is particularly devoted to urban gardening and urban revitalization efforts for Gary, Indiana.
Patricia earned her J.D. from Ohio Northern University College of Law and her B.S.N. from The Pennsylvania State University.
Patricia lives with her husband in the Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago and in Miller Beach/Gary IN. Her son is a financial analyst in the Gatorade division of PepsiCO and her daughter is an actor and writer in Los Angeles.
