Michael Italia is Vice President of Product Development at Syapse, a San Francisco-based company on a mission to deliver the best care for every cancer patient through precision medicine. Michael established Syapse’s East Coast office in Radnor, PA where he leads engineering teams responsible for the company's clinical and genomic data ingestion pipelines in addition to products that provide precision medicine insights from the Syapse Learning Health Network. Prior to joining Syapse, Michael was Manager of Applications Research at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center for Biomedical Informatics where he led the development of innovative, commercial-quality software to support translational research within the CHOP Research Institute and through various collaborators and National Institutes of Health consortia. Prior to his work at CHOP, Michael spent over 8 years in the Bioinformatics department at GlaxoSmithKline where he led various software projects focused on multi-platform genomics data integration for drug discovery and safety assessment. Michael holds a Masters in Biotechnology from The University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State.
