Laura Happe, PharmD, MPH

Laura E. Happe, PharmD, MPH is a pharmacist, researcher, and writer who uses data to help people make better health decisions.

Laura_Happe_headshot.jpgLaura is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Managed Care and Specialty Pharmacy (JMCP), the official peer-reviewed journal of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy. JMCP is published monthly and has a circulation of over 30,000 managed care executives. She is a professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where she directs the managed care pharmacy track within the graduate program of the Department of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy. She is also a professor of population health at Wingate University School of Health Sciences in Charlotte, North Carolina where she instructs students in nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physician assistant, and physical therapy programs.

Laura published her first book, If You Give an Ox an Oxyto help educate today's youth about the dangers of opioids.

Prior to her current roles, Laura was Chief Pharmacy Officer at Humana, where she led the company's response to combating the opioid epidemic. She also developed a research program at Humana, resulting in hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and presentations. 

Laura earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University and is a licensed pharmacist in both Florida and Arizona. She also holds a Master’s of Public Health degree with an emphasis on epidemiology from the University of South Florida and is fellowship trained in pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research.

Laura routinely speaks to lay and healthcare audiences on a variety of topics, advises pharmaceutical companies about payer coverage, and writes for trade and business publications. She lives with her husband in Charlotte, North Carolina, where they teach their kids that happiness is a choice.
