Dr. Khai Nguyen has a significant interest and passion for geriatrics (care of older adults), particularly the intersection of aging health policy and medicine. Dr. Nguyen is a board-certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine. He provides primary and specialty care to senior patients, with an emphasis on disease prevention, treatment of chronic illnesses/geriatric syndromes and preservation of function. His work in clinical geriatrics has allowed him the privilege to serve older adults in all community and home-based care settings. He is a Professor of Medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine (UCSD) and also serves as the National Medical Director of Community Health Accreditation Partner (CHAP), an accrediting organization for community-based care such as home health and hospice, focusing on quality of care and health equity initiatives such as Age-Friendly Care at Home.
Dr. Nguyen completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine at UCSD and residency in internal medicine at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla. He earned his medical degree from University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont, and holds a Master’s Degree in Health Policy and Certification in Health Finance and Management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His past health policy experience includes past work at CMS Division of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention where he worked on the Healthy Aging Project and the California Endowment.
