Julia Puchtler

Julia Puchtler is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, a multi-state academic health system headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. UPHS includes six acute care hospitals, physician practices and post-acute care operations with annual revenue of over $10 billion.

Julia previously served as Chief Financial Officer of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), a 1,200-bed acute care hospital within the University of Pennsylvania Health System.  In this role Julia oversaw all aspects of hospital financial performance including the financial planning for and opening of HUP’s new patient pavilion in October 2021. Julia joined Penn Medicine as the Vice President of Finance Operations and Budget in March 2015 and oversaw system-wide financial planning including the operating and capital budgeting processes, a centralized strategic decision support function, managed care analysis and government reimbursement.  

Prior to joining Penn Medicine, Julia served as the Vice President for Strategic Financial Planning & Decision Support at Trinity Health, where she led strategic finance across a 70- hospital system. She served as a link between individual entities and corporate management to enhance budgeting, financial planning processes, and financial improvement initiatives. Earlier in her career, Julia spent eight years at Ernst and Young working in the firm’s Health Care Assurance and Advisory Services. 

Julia received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Penn State University and a Master of Science in Accountancy from the University of Virginia. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has been a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association since 2011. Julia resides in Media, Pennsylvania with her husband Michael and their dog Harley.
