William S. George

william_georga.jpgWilliam S. George has served as Health Partners Plans’ president and chief executive officer since 2006. In this capacity, he has overall responsibility for leading one of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s largest health maintenance organizations, whose operations focus on a nationally recognized Medicaid managed care plan and the region's newest CHIP plan.

Under Mr. George's leadership, the Health Partners Medicaid plan has consistently ranked first in member satisfaction in the region and been acknowledged as a leader in improving healthcare quality with a resource-wise approach. It was also the first plan in the nation to receive the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Multicultural Health Care Distinction.

Mr. George previously served as Health Partners Plans’ Chief Financial Officer for 14 years. During that time, he oversaw the rapid membership and financial growth of its successful Medicare Advantage plan, which was sold in 2007 with 22,000 members. With more than 30 years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial and regulatory reporting, financial management and planning, and systems development, Mr. George was responsible for all corporate financial affairs.

Before joining Health Partners Plans, Mr. George held senior-level positions with US Healthcare and Arthur Young & Company (predecessor to Ernst & Young), an international accounting firm.

Mr. George serves on the Pennsylvania state boards for the American Diabetes Association and the March of Dimes, where he is also Board Treasurer. He is a Board Member and Board Treasurer of The Food Trust and the St. Christopher’s Foundation for Children, two organizations that promote healthy eating and support getting nutritious food to families in Philadelphia and other metropolitan areas throughout the United States. He also serves as a Board Member and Board Treasurer of three organizations supporting historic preservation in the Fairmount Park System in Philadelphia.

Mr. George has received the Good Scout Award from the Cradle of Liberty Council, Boy Scouts of America; the Drum Major Award from the Philadelphia Council of Clergy; the Human Rights Award from the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations; and the Essence of Fatherhood Award from the Father’s Day Rally Committee.

Mr. George has a BA in History and Economics (Cum Laude and departmental honors) from Lafayette College and an MBA in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA and AICPA).
