Robert C. McDonald MD, WG'92 and Bernie Zipprich WG’16



bob_mcdonald.jpgDr. Robert McDonald is Founder and President of Aledo Consulting, Inc, a consultancy that provides strategy and reimbursement assistance to companies commercializing novel healthcare products and services, from pre-revenue, venture-backed start-ups to Fortune 100 companies.  More recently, he has begun to provide leadership development to clinical leaders individually and in teams.   

Prior to founding Aledo Consulting, Dr. McDonald held a variety of senior positions within Anthem, Inc., the largest health plan in the U.S.  He had a diverse operational experience there, including General Manager of a health information technology business unit, Director of the Medical Policy Department that created the company’s coverage and reimbursement policies for the health plan, Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and Medical Director of Anthem Prescription Management, the internal pharmacy benefit management subsidiary.  Prior to Anthem, Dr. McDonald served as a Health Economics Research Physician at Eli Lilly and Company, where he developed and managed studies for documenting the economic value of Lilly products and served on the Global Pricing Committee. 

Dr. McDonald graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, with a Master’s in Business Administration with a focus in Healthcare Management.  He is a pulmonologist and internist trained at Washington University -- St. Louis and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.  He received his M.D. from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and his B.A. from Cornell University. 

He serves on the Board of Advisors for the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.  He also serves on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, where he assisted in launching the YMCA diabetes prevention program that is currently the subject of a Medicare Innovation Center (CMMI) grant.
