Corine J. Fisher Toomer, PhD

Corine_toomer.jpgCorine J. Fisher Toomer, PhD is currently a sales director for a Fortune 21 healthcare company. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in Language Literacy and Culture, and has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 22 years. 

Her interest in the connections between culture and medicine began during her undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and this interest was rekindled during her tenure in pharmaceuticals. During the last 15 years, Corine has focused on Oncology in the Washington, D.C. area. She was fascinated by the fact that African American women in the nation’s capital had the highest mortality rate of breast cancer. Her dissertation examined the role of culture in African American women’s breast health decisions. She believes research on African American women’s health issues are especially important and considers it to be a tremendous privilege to listen to and share their voices.

Corine currently resides in Ellicott City, MD with her husband and daughter. She also has a daughter and son-in-law who live in Brooklyn, NY.
