From the President...
Dear Fellow WHCMAA Alumni,
On behalf of the Board of the Wharton Health Care Management Alumni Association, I am pleased to present our 2nd WHCMAA Annual Report. This publication serves to inform our members of some of the Association’s more notable highlights of the year.
The WHCMAA’s board’s core objective is to meet the diverse needs of a multi-sector and geographically dispersed group of professionals, and I’m very proud to report that in 2011, we achieved a number of very significant milestones, including:
- Active, dues-paying membership hit an all-time high of 416, a 43% increase from 2010. This number represents over 20% engagement of our ever-growing base of WHCM alumni.
- WHCMAA sponsored or co-sponsored over 30 in-person content, webinars and networking events, with more than 1,000 participants in attendance. For the first time, we held two international events – in Sao Paolo, Brazil and in Cambridge, UK.
- In October, we held our first Annual Alumni Conference where 140 alumni gathered on campus for a day and a half of timely panel discussions, keynote addresses and networking.
I wish to thank our Board members and the many alumni volunteers who work tirelessly to make all of this… and more… happen each year.
We are proud of our accomplishments, but want to continue to enhance the WHCMAA’s offering to our member constituents. Over the course of 2012, we will be preparing a vision for the WHCMAA. We will ask you to participate in a survey that will seek your candid input on a number of key questions pertaining to the broader role of the Association. These include topics such as maximizing the value of our programming and relevant educational initiatives; collaborating with the Health Care Program and faculty; and partnering with WEMBA, regional Wharton clubs and other leading MBA alumni associations. We hope you will take the time to share your feedback.
The Wharton brand is one that we all wear with great pride! I hope that you will take the opportunity to become an engaged member of our Association. Active dues paying members enjoy a wide range of benefits including free access to topical webinars, exclusive access to our WHCMAA LinkedIn group and discounts on other programming. Your dues enable us to sponsor events, offer scholarships to 2nd year students, strengthen our web-based communications tools and provide stipends for international service trips for students.
If you are already a dues paying member, we thank you for your continuing support and would encourage you to take a more active role – host an event, chair a webinar, consider joining the WHCMAA Board. Feel free to contact any of our Committee Chairs directly; their names are listed at the heading of each section in this year's Annual Report. You can further strengthen your commitment to the Wharton Health Care Management Program by designating a specific gift via the Annual Wharton Fund. You can do this by visiting the Wharton Fund Site*.
With best wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2012,
Jay Mohr
